Served 27 years as superintendent of Sacred Heart in Falls City
DAVID CITY (SNR) – Msgr. Robert Roh, a retired priest of the Diocese of Lincoln, died March 14 at St. Joseph Villa in David City. He was 82.
Bishop James Conley will celebrate a funeral Mass at 11 a.m. Friday, March 18 in the Cathedral of the Risen Christ in Lincoln, concelebrated by priests of the Diocese of Lincoln.
A rosary was held at the Roh Activity Center at Sacred Heart School in Falls City March 17, and another rosary will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, March 18 at Ss. Peter and Paul Church in Abie.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 19 at Ss. Peter and Paul Church in Abie, and burial will follow at Ss. Peter and Paul Cemetery. Chermok Funeral Home in David City was in charge of arrangements.
Msgr. Roh and his family attended Ss. Peter and Paul Parish in Abie. On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of his ordination to the priesthood, he told the Southern Nebraska Register that the church’s two large stained glass windows – one of each patron – occupied his thoughts when he was too young to understand the Mass.
After his ordination in 1965, Msgr. Roh served as pastor in two parishes, under the patronage of the same saints: St. Peter in Bellwood and Ss. Peter and Paul in Falls City. He served many diocesan parishes as assistant pastor or resident priest: St. Joseph in Beatrice, St. Teresa and Blessed Sacrament in Lincoln, St. Cecilia and St. Michael in Hastings, Holy Trinity in Brainard, St. Francis in David City (Center) and St. Peter in Bellwood.
Roh served as superintendent of Sacred Heart School in Falls City for 27 years. As superintendent, he also taught and coached. After his retirement from the active priesthood in 2015, he continued to travel with the Sacred Heart sports teams when he was able.
In August of 2015, Bishop James Conley blessed and dedicated the new Roh Activity Center at Sacred Heart. The facility, which includes a gymnasium, lunch room and commons area, P.E. facility and weight room, a venue for concerts and presentations, and a practice facility that is also used for junior high games, was named in gratitude for Msgr. Roh’s decades of service to the school.
Msgr. Roh is survived by a sister, two brothers, niece and nephews.
