LINCOLN (SNR) – The Catholic Lawyers Guild of the Diocese of Lincoln invites all to the annual “Red Mass” Tuesday, April 18 at 7 a.m. in St. Thomas Aquinas Newman Center in Lincoln.
The Red Mass, celebrated by Bishop James Conley with Father Caleb La Rue as homilist, will be followed by a complimentary breakfast and presentation by Alan Sears, entitled “Preserving the Catholic Heritage of Liberty.”
Sears served as the founder and president of Alliance Defending Freedom, an international team providing training, funding, and legal advocacy designed to ensure attorneys are fully equipped to defend religious liberty, the sanctity of life, marriage and family—resulting in important roles in 52 landmark victories at the U.S. Supreme Court.
“Our religious liberty is under assault like never before in America, in ways that are chilling, that are alien and unimagined on these shores,” said Alan Sears. “If we fail to stand, if we fail to fight; if we fail to refuse to comply, our God-given liberty… will be but a distant memory.”
Sears has volunteered in serving various local parish and Diocese of Phoenix entities and school boards as well as chairing Catholic Education Arizona, providing school choice for students. He has founded several other successful organizations, ministries, and apostolates, and has served many other legal, faith-based, and charitable entities in various capacities.
The Catholic Lawyers’ Guild of the Diocese of Lincoln is an association for Catholics in the legal profession, seeking to assist members to integrate their Catholic faith in their professional life, to grow spiritually, and to provide a forum for addressing ethical and spiritual questions related to the legal profession in a practical way.
The public is invited to the Red Mass and to join the Catholic Lawyers Guild and distinguished guests in praying for those in the legal profession: judges, legislators, attorneys, government officials, and law students.
