Community invited for student-guided tours April 11
Nebraska City (SNR/LCC) — Lourdes Central Catholic School in Nebraska City is hosting a traveling educational exhibit “Anne Frank: A History for Today,” through April 13.
A community exhibit night will be held Monday, April 11 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the school commons. The event is free and open to the public.
The exhibit includes a 30-panel display and tells the story of Anne Frank’s life against the backdrop of the Holocaust and WWII.
Frank is one of the most well-known victims of the Jewish holocaust for her published diary, written while in hiding from 1942-44 in the Netherlands. She and her family were eventually discovered and she and her mother and sister all died as prisoners in labor camps.
Under the direction of Lourdes middle school English teacher Wendi Buggi, four students were selected to participate in a two-day peer training workshop. Eighth-grade students Eli Buggi, Mary Misner, Amelia White and Grace Baxa were prepared to give 30-minute guided tours through the exhibit.
Lourdes hosted its first community exhibit night March 31 and students in grades 4-12 have also had the opportunity to visit the exhibit during the school day.
“This is a great experience for our students and the community,” said Buggi. “We are always looking for opportunities to weave literature into social studies in ways that help bring more meaning to important historic events and the issues surrounding them.”
