WAVERLY (SNR) – Father Christopher Kubat invites men and women of all ages to Our Lady of Good Counsel Retreat House in Waverly for a retreat on Divine Mercy weekend April 22-24, entitled “Praying in the Spirit.”
“One of the most important parts of a retreat is not the preached talks, but the times of quiet, individual prayer spent meditating on those talks,” Father Kubat said. “This retreat will explore the benefits of silent prayer as a catalyst to encounter the love Jesus bestows from His Father, especially by opening ourselves to the movement of the Holy Spirit.”
Father Kubat said he chose this topic because it flows from his own practice of prayer.
“I frequently pray for the enlightenment of the Holy Spirit,” he explained, “especially when I do not know what to say. And I pray with confidence because the Lord will answer this prayer; we can rely on the aid of the Holy Spirit Who will give us the words to speak.”
Father Kubat has been a priest for 23 years and is pastor at St. Cecilia Parish in Hastings. He served 14 years as director of Catholic Social Services in the Diocese of Lincoln, known for its many charitable works assisting the poor and providing Catholic counseling services.
An avid promoter of Good Counsel Retreat House, Father Kubat said once someone “has experienced the power of a retreat and is enkindled with the fire of love, they will make it their mission to encourage their family and friends to attend.”
“Come Holy Spirit, help us to be efficacious instruments of grace to all those we meet,” he said.
