PLATTSMOUTH (SNR) – The student council at St. John the Baptist School in Plattsmouth held its annual Lenten service project.
The project aimed to raise support for the Franciscan Sisters of the Sorrowful Mother who have served in the Diocese of Lincoln since 2000. They are involved in catechetical work and Hispanic ministry in the Nebraska City area. Their charism is to obey the Lord’s command and to spread the Gospel message.
Students collected funds to support the Franciscan Sisters through a variety of in-school activities. Students paid $1 to wear Madi Gras colored shirts, St. Patrick’s Day shirts, and held a classroom “Pennies War” challenge.
In addition, the student council had a breakfast cart for two weeks where students could purchase breakfast items. All the activities resulted in a total of $1,786.49 raised for the sisters.
The student council presented the Franciscan Sisters with the total at an all-school assembly in the gymnasium April 13.
