LINCOLN – Two organizations within the Lincoln Diocese are finalists in The Big Give challenge by Union Bank & Trust (UBT) in Lincoln.
Ten $100,000 prizes will be awarded by UBT to the top vote categories of three categories: small, medium (Pius X Foundation) and large (Catholic Social Services of Southern Nebraska). Anyone can vote for these organizations at www.ubt.com/big-give. One vote per category per email address is counted. Voting ends Aug. 26.
Catholic Social Services of Southern Nebraska (CSS) would use the funds to provide financial assistance to help pay rent and utilities for thousands of families, and help to feed the growing number of people requesting food from the CSS Food Market in Lincoln
In addition to rent, utility and food assistance, the emergency services program collaborates with referring community agencies. CSS receives hundreds of referrals from more than a dozen agencies including the Lincoln-Lancaster County Health Department, Matt Talbot Kitchen & Outreach, People’s City Mission and more. They participate in a community-wide database to track client needs and services to ensure strong resource utilization and prevent duplication.
Pius X High School is working toward building a new secure school front entrance and welcome center. Pius X serves approximately 1,100 students annually, and welcomes thousands of visitors for a wide range of events every year. The Pius X Foundation is seeking support to build a new front entrance that will enhance safety and security, while creating a central “welcome center” for students’ families and visiting community members.
Pius staff said there is an urgent need to move forward on more than a decade of planning for an expanded school entrance that will incorporate 21st-century safety and security standards. The design was based on recommendations from school security experts, similar to those used by schools recently built in Lincoln.
The project will also expand the front entrance area and repurpose existing space to better enable school staff to work with students’ families and visitors. The enhancements will feature an expanded counseling center, front office, administrative office, and nurse office in a centralized location.
