Play to share tale of hope, enduring love, and faith

DENTON (SNR) – In late-19th Century Paris, a devout Catholic woman and a committed atheist wed. Their example reminds all that where there is love, there is God, and there is grace.

A 30-member cast and crew from multiple Lincoln-area parishes will perform a play this fall celebrating the life of Servant of God Elisabeth Leseur.

“The Leseur Love Story” tells the story of Elisabeth and Felix’s marriage — a match of love and mutual admiration, but also a life marked with suffering and sacrifice.

The play is written and directed by Patsy Urbanovsky, a member of St. Mary Parish in Denton.

“Although this story was lived out over a century ago, it is a narrative just as relevant today,” Urbanovsky said. “For those wishing to share the faith with their spouse, this is a story of hope, enduring love, and faith in the fruitfulness God will bring from our faithfulness.”

Throughout the Leseurs’ marriage, Urbanovsky explained, Elisabeth found solace in her prayer life and writing in her spiritual journal. She trusted that God held the full picture, even if she could only catch small glimpses of it. After her death, the “secret diary” was discovered by Felix and forever changed his life — and faith.

Elisabeth Leseur died in 1914. The cause for her beatification was started in 1934.

Performances of “The Leseur Love Story” will be held at St. Mary Church in Denton on Oct. 13, 14 and 15 at 7 p.m. and Oct. 16 at 2 p.m.

Admission is a free-will offering. Seating is limited and tickets must be reserved in advance. Tickets can be reserved online at frassati.eventbrite.com or by calling Sandra at (402) 937-4467.
