LINCOLN (SNR) – The Cathedral of the Risen Christ choir in Lincoln invites singers from the area to participate in a special concert Nov. 20.

“Give Glory to God” will both celebrate the national Eucharistic Revival with Eucharist-themed music, and honor Bishop James Conley on the 10th anniversary of his installation as Bishop of Lincoln.

The event will be held at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 20 in the Cathedral, 3500 Sheridan Blvd., Lincoln.

“I’m hoping it’s a time for musicians to grow in fellowship but also a wonderful, and well-attended concert for the parish and diocese at large,” said Cathedral choir director Amy Flamminio.

Bishop Conley plans to speak at the concert, and to offer a brief reflection for the choir members at rehearsal the day before as well.

Participants will rehearse Saturday, Nov. 19 from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Sunday, Nov. 20 at 1 p.m. until the concert. Singers will be on their own for lunch on Saturday, but a catered meal will be provided for the choir before the Sunday concert.

Registration closes on Sept. 30, or when all voice parts are filled. Soprano slots have been filled with additional people on a waiting list, but alto, tenor and bass spots remain – especially basses, Flamminio said.

The repertoire will include: Vivaldi’s Gloria, Howells’ Gloucester Service: Magnificat, Byrd’s Ave Verum Corpus, and Hanrahan’s Cry Out With Joy. A string quartet and a brass quintet will join the choir for some of the songs.

Music and recordings are available ahead of time so that participants may learn their parts as much as possible.
