The Lincoln Diocesan Council of Catholic Women (LDCCW) will host its annual winter symposium Feb. 10-11 at Our Lady of Good Counsel Retreat House in Waverly.
The LDCCW is an organization of all Catholic women in the Diocese of Lincoln which enriches the lives of its members by pursuing projects designed to further spiritual and family life in all parishes and communities in southern Nebraska.
The Feb. 10-11 symposium is entitled “Living the Encounter… A Journey of Gratitude and Love!” It is open to all women of the diocese.
“Every woman who is a member of a parish in our diocese is also a member of the LDCCW,” explained LDCCW president Trudy Burenheide, encouraging all women of the diocese to attend all or part of the symposium. She said the theme for her two-year term as president is, “Together, sharing our faith as Catholic women, so the power of the Gospel shines forth in our families.”
“I believe that is what each of us truly desires for our children and grandchildren,” she said. “The more we can unite ourselves in events like this, the stronger we will become.”
Several women will present important information for attendees. Kathy Perkins, a volunteer from Falls City, will lead an activity during the Friday night reception and fellowship. Participants will work together in small groups creating personal keepsake bookmarks with scripture verses or saints, and share how they have accompanied each woman on her “Journey of Gratitude and Love.”
Lisa McInerney of Lincoln will present “Becoming Immersed in the Truth of Abortion, the Need for Great Love” on her work with the leadership team of Sidewalk Advocates for Life-Lincoln. She will be accompanied by Catherine Turner, 40 Days for Life coordinator in Lincoln.
Katie Patrick, executive director for Catholic Social Services of Southern Nebraska, will present “Blessed are the Peacemakers” and Rosemary and Mike Clements of Lincoln will present “NFP, God’s Gift.”
LDCCW members are invited and encouraged to bring items to donate. Catholic Social Services will collect donations of sunscreen to distribute to those in need. Turner and McInerney will accept donations for the gift bags they use for outreach to women. Items suggested are small packs of tissues, lip balms and, small tubes of lotion, small notepads and pens, small packs of gum and emery boards.
A panel of young adults will share how they are living the fruits of diocesan youth events. They will speak about Camp Kateri and SKY Camp, Totus Tuus summer catechesis, Teens Encounter Christ, and other ministries and experiences.
LDCCW chaplains Father Thomas Lux and Father Thomas McGuire will lead midmorning prayer from the Liturgy of the Hours. Father Christopher Eckrich, diocesan master of ceremonies, will celebrate Mass.
The cost to attend is $110 for Friday and Saturday. That price includes an overnight stay in a private room at the retreat house, and a hot breakfast. Commuters with no overnight stay pay $50 for Friday and Saturday. The cost to attend Friday only is $10. Details and registration are available at goodcounselretreat.org.
