Members of the St. Anne Circle of the Parish Council of Catholic Women at St. Peter Parish in Lincoln started helping Tabitha Health Care Services with an important act of kindness.

Tabitha’s “Meals on Wheels” volunteers deliver meals to 3,200 clients in the Lincoln area each week. The organization considers the service an “invaluable” face-to-face meeting for each person, ensuring a safety check as well as the delivery of a nutritious meal.

When the St. Anne Circle was presented with the opportunity to help decorate lunch sacks used for the Meals on Wheels, the members jumped right in to help, since feeding the hungry is one of the corporal works of mercy. Tabitha, a faith-based organization, also likes to have Bible verses placed inside each sack, so the PCCW members considered the project a great opportunity to evangelize, as well.

Since the beginning of December, St. Anne Circle members have decorated 500 sacks each Tuesday afternoon, including a Bible verse inside each bag.

Bonnie Damrow, a St. Anne Circle member, extended an invitation to St. Peter School to help decorate the Meals on Wheels brown bags.

“What a delight for the children to show off their artistic talents,” she said. “We challenge all of the Lincoln Catholic churches and schools to decorate Meals on Wheels lunch! This is an invaluable service for Tabitha and the individuals who receive the decorated bags.

“Just think what a difference you could make in someone’s life,” she continued. “Many of these people do not see anyone else that day besides the one person delivering their meal. Your brightly colored sacks will definitely put a smile on their faces. Your Bible verse may be one they will keep and reflect on each day or may use it as a bookmark.”

Those interested in assisting may contact Tabitha at (402) 486-8589 between 1 and 4 p.m. weekdays, or email This email address is being protected from spambots. “Bring joy to others in small ways,” Damrow encouraged. “As Mother Teresa stated, ‘Do small things with great love.’”
