The Parish Council of Catholic Women (PCCW) of Sacred Heart Parish in Lawrence held its annual “Sewing Day” Feb. 25.
The day began with a business meeting over coffee and rolls, served by the officers. Then, nearly 20 women worked together to tie 30 quilts.
One of the quilts will be donated to the Lawrence Rural Fire Department, for their drawing. Two more will be donated to the Easter bake sale and raffle at the parish. Other quilts will be distributed to charitable organizations in the area.
The women also prepared and distributed hygiene kits containing towels and products like shampoo, hand soap, toothbushes, toothpaste, deodorant, combs and more, to the Lawrence/Nelson and Blue Hill schools and to Catholic Social Services. Other donations of hygiene products, towels, laundry detergents and similar items were donated and will be taken to Catholic Social Services in Hastings for distribution as needed.
The workers stopped for lunch served by the PCCW officers, and continued tying the quilts until 2 p.m.
The primary mission of a PCCW is to perform the Corporal Works of Mercy. Member Barb Janda said, “This group of ladies gave testimony to the fact the work doesn’t always have to be grueling and painful, but is often done in a cheerful and happy manner.”
