The Catholic Lawyers Guild of the Diocese of Lincoln invites all to the annual “Red Mass” Tuesday, April 18 at 7 a.m. in the St. Thomas Aquinas Newman Center, 320 N. 16th St., Lincoln.
The Red Mass, celebrated by Bishop James Conley with Msgr. Timothy Thorburn as homilist, will be followed by a complimentary breakfast and presentation by Conor Gallagher.
Gallagher, a husband and father of 15 children, is the author of various books. His subjects of interest include family life, philosophy, the spiritual life and spiritual direction. His talk April 18 is entitled, “Catholic Doctrine and Spiritual Direction for Lawyers.”
“The chaos of our lives and the demands of those with whom we live and work can leave us feeling helpless,” Gallagher said. “The world, however, only offers fake solutions to these real problems: over-medication, spurts of carnal pleasure, and ‘time management’ techniques that never suffice.
“We need real remedies for encountering God in the present moment,” he continued, “listening to the voice of God in silence amidst the constant drum of deafening noise.”
Gallagher is the CEO of TAN Books / St. Benedict Press and the executive director of the Benedict Leadership Institute at Belmont Abbey College in Belmont, N.C. Gallagher has also been a longtime adjunct professor of philosophy and political philosophy at Belmont Abbey College.
The Catholic Lawyers’ Guild of the Diocese of Lincoln is an association for Catholics in the legal profession, seeking to assist members to integrate their Catholic faith in their professional life, to grow spiritually, and to provide a forum for addressing ethical and spiritual questions related to the legal profession in a practical way.
