Clare Vanderpool, the 2011 Newbery-award winning author, visited students at St. Cecilia Middle School in Hastings March 17.
Vanderpool spoke about her book “Moon Over Manifest,” and how she discovered her own love of reading and writing. She also autographed copies of her book for students.
On March 18, Lincoln-area junior high students attended an event with Vanderpool at the St. Thomas Aquinas Newman Center in Lincoln. It included an escape room based on “Moon Over Manifest,” a book signing, and a presentation by Vanderpool and Bishop James Conley.
Each spring, Page One, an extracurricular reading program with programming for students in grades 3-8, hosts an event for junior high students, inviting them to read a novel and discuss the book with Bishop Conley. Next year's title will be “The Wind in the Willows.”
Page One will also hold its annual competition Saturday, April 15 from 1 to 4 p.m. at Pius X High School in Lincoln.
