S.T.A.G.E. student theatre will present the musical comedy, “The Princess and the Mustard Seed Returns,” June 22-25 and July 2.
This production, performed by students ages 9-19 years, will be presented at St. Teresa Church’s Kaczmarek Hall, 735 S. 36th St., Lincoln.
In a fairy tale setting, The Princess and the Mustard Seed finds Goldilocks, the girl without a “happily ever after” ending, wandering in the woods. She encounters a fairy godmother who sends her on a mission to find the princess who is “just right” to move the giant mountain of mattresses that blocks the path to the Happily Ever After. Fairy Godmother instructs Goldilocks that it only takes faith the size of a mustard seed to move the monstrosity, and that she must find the princess who has this.
Goldilocks falls in and out of other stories, meeting up with several characters including Snow White, the Seven Dwarfs, Cinderella, Rapunzel, the Three Little Pigs, and even the Big Bad Wolf. While things seem hopeless, Goldilocks eventually gains confidence to see the invisible, hear the inaudible, and believe the impossible, which is faith.
Lee Hotovy, S.T.A.G.E. founder, writer, and director, said “The Princess and the Mustard Seed” was first performed in 2008, but returns with a slightly different storyline and a new princess who meets the original princess as her fairy godmother.
“It is a tale that reminds the viewer faith is a gift, which requires one to see the invisible, hear the inaudible, and believe the impossible,” Hotovy said.
Other S.T.A.G.E. contributors include musical director Felicity Suelter and choreographer Lydia Hotovy.
Hotovy founded S.T.A.G.E. (Student Theater and Godly Evangelization) in 1999, providing a creative outlet for children of all ages. The troupe typically produces two to three original shows each year, with a larger production during the summer, involving children from Lincoln and the surrounding rural areas.
“The Princess and the Mustard Seed” will be performed at 7 p.m. June 22, 23, 24, and at 2 p.m. June 25 and July 2. Doors open 30 minutes before showtime. The show is approximately two hours, with intermission and concessions.
