All fathers are invited to Our Lady of Good Counsel Retreat House in Waverly for a day of reflection for dads with Jeremy Ekeler and Father Eric Clark.

The event will be held Saturday, July 29, from 1:30 to 6:30 p.m.

The afternoon will include Mass, confession, and silent prayer time, but also time for community, discussion and sharing in the experiences that come with fatherhood and family life. Food will be included as well.

Much of the day will draw on the topic of “The Masculine Journey” from the books “Wild at Heart” and “Fathered by God,” as well as the importance of the bond of friendship among fathers rooted in faith.

“Our culture is crying out for strong male leadership,” Jeremy Ekeler said. “Filling that void doesn’t require perfection – it requires men brave enough to be who God intended them to be: leaders of the domestic Church.”

Men will have time to explore this truth, to draw strength from God, and each other.

“The roles of husband and father have never been more necessary,” Ekeler added. “Formulating fellowship is exactly what men need in a society that tells them to isolate and gratify.”

Ekeler, father of five and member of the Cathedral of the Risen Christ in Lincoln, leads a ‘That Man is You’ men’s group. He serves as associate director of education policy for the Nebraska Catholic Conference. He is a graduate of Pius X High School in Lincoln and was principal at Cathedral School.

Father Clark, a native of St. Patrick Parish in McCool Junction, was ordained a priest in 2014. He has been pastor of St. Peter Parish in Lincoln since 2020. He was previously an assistant pastor at St. Michael Parish in Lincoln, and in residence at the Cathedral while a master of ceremonies for Bishop James Conley. He also taught at Pius X High School.

Other upcoming retreats at Our Lady of Good Counsel include a men’s “TLM Spiritual Exercises Retreat” with Father Jeffrey Jambon, L.C. July 7-9; “4-Day” or “8-Day Ignatian Directed Retreats” July 12-16, 16-20 or 12-20 with Matt Simmons or Father Gary Coulter, and “Priest, Prophet, King - Orphan, Stranger, Widow” Aug. 18-20 with Father Adam Sughroue.
