All men and women are invited to Our Lady of Good Counsel Retreat House in Waverly Aug. 18-20 for a retreat with Father Adam Sughroue, “Priest, Prophet, King – Orphan, Stranger, Widow.”

Each of us “wants to be who God created us to be and to not live a false identity,” Father Sughroue explained, and with the help of a loving Father we can “identify the wound, the lies around the wound, and pray through them.”

Through Baptism, each person holds the identity of “Priest, Prophet and King,” but the brokenness of the human experience can make one feel as an orphan, stranger and widow. During the retreat, people will come to know themselves through the eyes of God, the loving Father.

Father Sughroue said he has a passion to help people “know their identity as a child of God and the many gifts and talents that God has given them.” The Aug. 18-20 retreat will provide an opportunity for participants to reflect on those places that have broken them from that relationship with the Father and to live more fully in the truth of their threefold identity: priest, prophet, king.

Ordained in 2011, Father Sughroue has served at parishes across the diocese. He is pastor of Presentation Parish in Bellwood, St. Francis Parish (Center) and is the seminarian formator at St. Gregory the Great Seminary in Seward. He has also been a teacher throughout his priesthood, first at Pius X High School in Lincoln, and currently at Hastings Catholic Schools.

The retreat starts Friday with rosary and Mass at 8 p.m., and ends Sunday with Mass and a noon lunch.

Our Lady of Good Counsel Retreat House offers 50 single rooms, each with a private bath, and a peaceful atmosphere of prayer and recollection, situated on a spacious acreage near Waverly.

Upcoming retreats at Our Lady of Good Counsel include: “Day for Dads” Saturday, July 29, from 1:30 to 6:30 p.m.; and “Unbound: Freedom in Christ” with Father Gary Coulter Aug. 25-27.
