Entering its fifth year of operation in September, The Emmaus Institute for Biblical Studies will offer four new in-person and online classes, plus a special fall seminar Oct. 14.
In an effort to serve both the clergy and the laity more effectively, beginning this fall the Institute will offer its signature certificate program “Creation to New Creation: Journey through Scripture from Genesis to Revelation” in three cohort tracks: Cohort A specifically for priests and catechists, Cohort B (beginning next summer) for school teachers and administrators, and Cohort C for missionary disciples (everyone else who desires to continue growing in faithfulness and fruitfulness). Students in any of these cohorts are not bound to a three-year commitment, but may enter and exit the course stream at any time.
Cohort A for priests and catechists will begin with a feature course on “The Gospels and Acts.” Taught by Joshua Burks, the 10-week class will meet Tuesdays, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., Sept. 5 through Nov. 14.
Cohort C will continue the stream of courses with which many are already familiar, focusing this fall on “Psalms and the Wisdom Books.”
Taught by Chad Steiner and Vern Steiner, the 10-week class will meet Mondays, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., Sept. 11 through Nov. 13.
Students interested in possible transfer credit toward an M.A. or M.Ed. for either of these courses through the University of Mary may discuss the possibility with one of the Emmaus staff members.
In addition to the “Creation to New Creation” cohort streams, Emmaus will offer two additional courses this fall. Joshua Burks will teach a five-week class, “Praying with Scripture: Meeting Jesus the Word in the Written Word,” Wednesdays from 6:30 to 8 p.m., Sept. 6 through Oct. 4, and Oct. 18 through Nov. 15.
Dr. Vern Steiner will re-offer a 10-week class, “Heaven, Help the Home: God’s Blueprint for Marriage and Family,” Thursdays, 6:30 to 8 p.m., Sept. 7 through Nov. 16.
Full course descriptions and registration details are available at www.emmausinstitute.net. All classes are held in the Emmaus classrooms in the Calvert Office Park, 3601 Calvert, Suite 23 in Lincoln, and all are available both in-person and online. While in-person students have free and convenient access to the online recordings, for the blessings and benefits of learning in community, the Institute encourages personal attendance and participation for students within reasonable driving distance.
Emmaus will offer a half-day seminar with New Testament scholar and guest lecturer Dr. James Prothro from the Augustine Institute Graduate School of Theology Oct. 14, hosted at St. Michael Church in Lincoln. Additional information and registration details will follow.
