A cast and crew of 25 Lincoln-area Catholics will come together to tell the story of St. Margaret Clitherow, a remarkable young woman who would one day be known as the Pearl of York.”

“The Pearl of York was written by Cathal Gallagher in cooperation with G.K. Chesterton Plays, and is directed by Patsy Urbanovsky, a member of St. Mary Parish in Denton.

“Margaret Clitherow was a wife and mother with a deep devotion to Jesus in the sacrifice of the Mass,” Urbanovsky said. “She bravely defended priests and was willing to give her life for her love of Jesus. We are privileged to tell her story on stage.”

Dorothy Urbanovsky as Margaret Clitherow and Andrew Vinton as Margaret's father, Henry May.

The first woman to die for her faith in the Reformation period, Margaret Clitherow is one of the Forty Martyrs of England and Wales. She is also a patron saint for the Seven Sisters Apostolate, in which a group of women pray Eucharistic holy hours for a specific priest.

Cast and crew members include both children and adults from six Lincoln-area parishes.

The play will be performed at St. Mary Church in Denton Oct. 12, 13 and 14 at 7 p.m., and Oct. 15 at 2 p.m.

Seating is limited and tickets must be reserved in advance at Frassati.eventbrite.com or by calling (402) 937-4467. The play will be performed in the church basement, which is accessible by stairs only. Due to its length, the play is not suitable for young children. Free-will offerings are accepted.
