Catholic cycling enthusiasts in Seward invite all to participate in the second “Ride for Life” Saturday, Oct. 21, to support women and children. Participants may join in person, or in mission.

The event will begin with Mass at 8 a.m. in St. Vincent de Paul Church. Muffins and water will be available after Mass, as participants begin a decade of the rosary outside at 8:45 a.m.

At 9 a.m. bike riders will begin the “Ride for Life,” choosing one of two routes. A 55-mile route will travel to St. Wenceslaus Church in Bee, Assumption Church in Dwight, Immaculate Conception Church in Ulysses – where food and water will be provided – and St. Gregory the Great Seminary on the southern edge of Seward, continuing the rosary at each location. They will then return to St. Vincent de Paul Church.
A 12-mile route will travel to Bee and return to St. Vincent de Paul Church. Snacks will be provided at St. Vincent.

The registration fee is a monetary gift from a parish or sponsor. All funds will benefit the Women’s Care Center in Lincoln.

The inaugural Ride for Life raised more than $4,500, with one check coming from as far away as California. Organizer Aaron Busse encouraged riders to share information about the work of the Women’s Care Center. He said a $30 donation will provide diapers and formula for one week for one baby; $84 will provide counseling and an ultrasound to save the life of an unborn baby; $250 will provide parenting class and a stroller or crib; and $1,000 will support one mom and baby every month for one year.

Participants are encouraged to gather pledges for their rides, with all donations going to the Women’s Care Center. Those who want to support the event but don’t want to ride may simply make a donation directly to the Women’s Care Center, in honor of the Ride for Life.

Supporters are asked to honor their pledges within two weeks of the event. Checks should be made out to the Women’s Care Center, and they may be delivered to organizers or mailed directly to the WCC, marked “Ride for Life,” at 5632 S. 48th St., Lincoln, NE 68516.
