All men are invited to have a personal encounter with Christ as they discover Him during “Men’s Spiritual Exercises,” a retreat with Regnum Christi and Father Shawn Aaron, L.C. at Our Lady of Good Counsel Retreat House Dec. 7-10.

The theme is “Back to the Fundamentals.”

The weekend retreat in Waverly will be based on the classic Spiritual Exercises developed by St. Ignatius of Loyola. Retreatants meditate on the principal truths of the Christian faith with a special emphasis on following and imitating Christ.

The preached Spiritual Exercises will be given by a priest of the Legionaries of Christ, Father Shawn Aaron, and includes Mass, rosary, confessions, adoration, silence, meditation and spiritual direction with Father Gary Coulter, director of the retreat house.

The retreat is not only for Regnum Christi members, as it is open to men of all ages who may be interested in the topic or learning more about Regnum Christi. Men are also invited to come early and join a social Thursday, Dec. 7 and formation day Friday, Dec. 8.

Regnum Christi, the “Kingdom of Christ,” is an apostolic movement of passionate Catholics from all walks of life who strive to impact the world by building Christ’s Kingdom on earth. Members commit to live out their baptismal call to holiness and to engage in apostolic action, desiring to change the world through works of evangelization.

Father Shawn Aaron grew up in California. From 1989-90 he served as a team leader for the National Evangelization Teams (NET) and traveled throughout the United States providing retreats for students. He began working with St. Paul’s Outreach before joining the Legionaries of Christ in 1991. He studied at the Pontifical Athenaeum Regina Apostolorum in Rome and was ordained to the priesthood on Christmas Eve in 2002.

After several college and university apostolates, Father Shawn served in leadership roles for the Legionaries of Christ, including being named as the North American Territorial Director in 2020. For several years he has been development director for the Legionaries, and also a retreat director for Our Lady of Santa Clara retreat center in Cupertino, Calif.
