Thirty-two students from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL) Komenský Club held a “Bohemian Alps” trip Friday, Nov. 3 with the UNL Czech Studies program.
The first stop was Sacred Heart Church at Cedar Hill, where Cec Hall gave a talk on the history of the church. The group also toured the church hall, where various artifacts and pictures from the parish history were displayed, and took a walk to the parish cemetery.
The Komenský club is a group of students dedicated to studying the Czech language, culture and history. The UNL Czech Studies program included alumni and friends on the Nov. 3 trip. Those present were Dr. Mila Saskova-Pierce, Czech honorary consul; Layne Pierce, president of the Czech Language Foundation; Dr. Jiri Schwarz, chancellor of Anglo-American University in Prague, Czech Republic; Pavel Novak, Czech Radio foreign correspondent visiting from Washington, DC., Hana Waisserova, associate professor of practice, Czech and Central European Studies; and UNL students.
