Long before the rush of Black Friday and Cyber Monday, the tradition of gift-giving began at the humble manger, when the three Wise Men brought Jesus gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh, recognizing him as the Son of God.
Today, in the spirit of the Wise Men, we extend our love and gratitude to family and friends through the exchange of Christmas gifts. As shoppers discern gift-giving this season, consider options that nurture a closer relationship with Christ. The diocese is home to an array of faith-filled gift ideas and Catholic-oriented shops.

Everyday Prayer Co.
When Brennan Costello wanted to start praying the rosary every day, he struggled.
“I wasn’t a big fan of carrying an easily tangled string of beads in my pocket,” Costello said. “I thought about a rosary that I could keep in my wallet, something I already carry with me every day. That’s when I experimented and created a wallet rosary card.”
The rosary card is a compact prayer tool made to fit in a wallet or purse. The card is both strong and light, thin metal construction, and the same size as a standard credit card. Finger holes around the outside of the card can be used to pray the rosary, with a symbol of Mother Mary featured in the center. A portion of each purchase goes to the Matt Talbot Kitchen in Lincoln.

Give the gift of a Mass
Consider giving the greatest spiritual gift a person could receive. The celebration of Mass, the “source and summit” of Catholic faith, is one of humanity’s greatest gifts from God. Request Masses for particular intentions, with a small stipend usually paid to the parish or religious community. Offering a Mass for someone’s intentions is a custom many follow, especially during Christmas. If you’re seeking a meaningful gift, arranging a Mass at your local parish for someone’s intentions is a spiritually fruitful choice.
