Bishop James Conley blessed a new statue of Christ the King Dec. 20, at the Adoration Chapel of Christ the King of the Holy Spirit Adoration Sisters in Lincoln.

The statue was installed in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the order’s arrival in Lincoln. The Sisters, more commonly known as the “Pink Sisters” due to their rose-colored habits, are cloistered nuns who are entirely dedicated to the contemplative life and the service of perpetual adoration. They were invited to the Catholic Diocese of Lincoln in 1973 by Bishop Glennon Flavin. The Sisters, founded in the late 1800s in the Netherlands, also have homes in St. Louis, Philadelphia and Texas, as well as the Philippines, South America, India, Indonesia and Africa.

The 5-foot white statue of Christ the King was donated by George and Barbara Hendricks. It was procured by Church Supply Warehouse in Wheaton, Ill., from Demetz Art Studio in Italy. The Hendricks family obtained the statue and also managed the new concrete work for the plaza in which it was installed. Outdoor Solutions and Heritage Nursery provided the planters and plants while TMCO Inc. dontated the viewing bench. Outdoor Solutions and Heritage Nursery will provide additional landscaping around the plaza area in the spring.

The Sisters chose the location of the statue, to allow for visitors to the chapel to approach the statue or to stay for a time of reflection on the nearby bench. The statue is positioned with a backdrop of the chapel’s stained glass wall.

Also present at the Dec. 20 blessing were Father Nicholas Kipper, pastor of St. Teresa Parish nearby and the Sisters’ chaplain, and Father Christopher Eckrich, the bishop’s master of ceremonies. About 30 guests attended the blessing on the grounds and a breakfast held afterward in the Aurora Room, a gathering space for the public adjacent to the vestibule of the church.

All are encouraged to visit the chapel, at 1040 S. Cotner Blvd. in Lincoln, to see the new statue and to make a visit to the Eucharistic Lord in the serenity of the indoor chapel. The site, one of the stops of the diocesan Eucharistic Passport Pilgrimage program, is open to the public Monday through Saturday from 6 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., and Sundays from 8 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Also available to the public is the daily Mass, celebrated at 7 a.m. Monday through Saturday, and compline and benediction nightly at 8 p.m.
