"Catholic Man Night” kicked off its 2024 calendar year in Wahoo Jan. 10 with Catholic author, evangelist, and apologist Steve Ray.
Ray appeared via live video from the comfort of his living room in Michigan, while Nebraskans braved cold temperatures and a snow squall to hear the talk and to ask Ray questions about the defense of the Catholic faith.
Bob Sullivan of St. Wenceslaus Parish moderated the evening and peppered Ray with questions while posing as fictional character “Pastor Billy Bob” from Dallas. “Pastor Billy Bob” sparred with Steve over topics such as the papacy, Catholic tradition, infant baptism, Marian theology, the “rapture,” and many more. Ray zealously, and sometimes humorously, knocked down each jab. Numerous attendees also posed questions to Steve themselves or by passing their questions through “Pastor Billy Bob.”
“Catholic Man Night” events began last fall, and this was the first event of 2024. The next talk will be held Feb. 21 at 7 p.m. at the Wahoo State Bank Shed, 6th and Elm streets in Wahoo.
The speaker will be Mark Houck of Pennsylvania, a finalist for Catholic Vote’s “2023 Hero of the Year.” Houck will tell of his experience of being targeted by federal law enforcement, his arrest by a team of FBI agents and other federal officers in 2022, at his home while he was preparing to wake his seven children and get them ready for school, the subsequent federal jury trial, and the acquittal, which occurred in mere minutes after federal prosecutors rested their case against him. Houck will explain how his faith not only sustained him through his prosecution, but prepared him to endure it with courage and hope.
There is no admission fee, but free-will donations will be accepted to help defray Houck’s travel expenses and to help support his ministry, The King’s Men, which helps men escape addiction to pornography. The event is recommended for fathers and sons, and all males ages 14 and older.
