All women are invited to the annual Lincoln Diocesan Council of Catholic Women (LDCCW) Winter Symposium Feb. 16 and 17 at Our Lady of Good Counsel Retreat House in Waverly.
This year’s symposium theme is “Magnify Our Lord... With Beauty and Truth.”
Registration begins Friday at 6:30 p.m., followed by a time of prayer, adoration, and worship before the Holy Eucharist with Sister Amy Marie of the Marian Sisters of the Diocese of Lincoln. The evening will conclude with a time to gather in friendship and refreshments.
Trudy Burenheide, current president of the LDCCW, said she was greatly looking forward to the symposium.
“I hope you are as excited as I am to unfold all that our guests have to share with us and discover where the Holy Spirit will lead us as sisters in Christ,” she said.
The remainder of the retreat on Saturday will feature devotions and speakers, including Charlie Williams, assistant director of the Women’s Care Center Foundation, and Paul Yates, executive director of I’ve Got A Name.
As a part of LDCCW’s work of service to the people of the diocese, it is customary to bring items to donate to a specific need at the annual symposium. This year, members are collecting new and like-new books and clothing for infants through toddlers – items with tags, please – to contribute to the Women’s Care Center, helping many mothers in need.
The purpose of I’ve Got A Name is to “ultimately protect the most vulnerable in our communities by helping the public identify sex trafficking and become engaged to fight it.” All the proceeds from gift baskets at the symposium, and the raffle at the LDCCW convention April 26-27, will go toward the mission of I’ve Got A Name, supporting its efforts to stop human trafficking.
Bishop James Conley will celebrate Mass for the participants on Saturday before lunchtime.
Emily Martinez, Catholic therapist at Restoration Psychotherapy, and Sarina Stokes, outreach and ministry coordinator at the retreat house, will be the afternoon speakers, focusing on the beauty of Christ.
