The Emmaus Institute for Biblical Studies will lead a weekend retreat at Our Lady of Good Counsel Retreat House in Waverly Feb. 23-25, devoted to encountering the Lord in the pages of Sacred Scripture.

The “Praying with Scripture” retreat will guide participants in approaching the Bible with clarity, reverence, and conviction, helping those from all walks of life to acquire the necessary skills to read God’s Word comprehensibly and to encounter Jesus in every page.

Dr. Vern Steiner, director of the Emmaus Institute, and teachers Chad Steiner and Josh Burks will each offer talks developing how the Sacred Scriptures are not a dead word, but apply to the reality of participants’ lives today. They will explain how to pray with Scripture through different forms, like Lectio Divina or Ignatian Prayer.

The retreat will include opportunities for Mass, prayer, confessions, formation, discussion, and more. The retreat will begin Friday at 7 p.m. with the rosary and Mass, and close with Sunday Mass, followed by lunch.

Our Lady of Good Counsel Retreat House offers a peaceful atmosphere of prayer and recollection, situated on a spacious acreage near Waverly.
