Each night will include dinner, games, praise and worship music and a speaker
St. Mary Parish in David City will host a Lenten parish mission March 19-21.
The mission is titled “Encountering Christ in the Poor and the Eucharist,” and all are welcome to attend one or all events.
Each night will begin with dinner in the St. Mary School gymnasium, 1026 5th St., David City, from 6 to 7 p.m. Games and a bounce house will be available. Praise and worship in the church will follow, from 7 to 8 p.m., with music by Catholic musician Danny Leger from Hope of the Poor.
There will be a speaker each night: Father Carson Kain, Father William Holoubek and Father Alan Phan. Priests will be available to hear confessions, and prayer teams will be available for those asking for special prayers for themselves or for others.
Leger and Craig Juhring have hosted multiple pilgrimages from St. Mary Parish, and the Catholic Diocese of Lincoln, to Mexico City with Hope of the Poor. Father Brian Connor, pastor of St. Mary Parish, has attended the retreat and mission in Mexico City, as have assistant pastor Father Tony Schukei and Sister Mary Kansier, M.S., evangelization coordinator.
Father Connor said the parish hopes to “bring a taste of this experience to the parish, with the help of parishioners. Each day, teams of two or three people will go to different corners of the parish inviting people to attend the mission.
“This is modeled on the Gospel,” Father Connor explained, “and parish missions conducted by religious orders.
“We will start in various neighborhoods and walk toward the church, inviting people at home to join us,” he continued. “We hope that good food, games, music and prayer time will encourage people to attend.”
