More than 80 men attended the Feb. 21 “Catholic Man Knight” in Wahoo to hear Mark Houck’s story and encouragement.
Houck spoke about being falsely accused of violating the FACE Act, when he stepped between his 12-year-old son and an aggressive Planned Parenthood abortion escort in 2021, and he also explained the 20 years of Catholic formation which prepared him for the maelstrom that followed that fateful day. He talked about how prayer, forming friendships and brotherhood with other faithful Catholic men, and then becoming a leader of men, had prepared him for the fight for his freedom and the rights of faithful Christians who disagree with those who promote immorality and the assault on the Christian way of life in America, including life itself.
Houck gave witness to the faith and skill of his legal team, the Thomas More Society, but he glorified God and the many ways the Holy Spirit comforted and guided him and his attorneys as he faced the likelihood of spending 11 years in prison for defending his son.
Since his acquittal by a federal jury, Houck has travelled the country, telling his story.
The Feb. 21 event was the sixth of a seven-part series, sponsored by the Knights of Columbus Pope John Paul II Council #1833 in Wahoo. The series began last fall and ends March 20.
The last event of the series will be a talk by Jillian and Kevin Bosak: “Christlike for the Women in our Lives.” The talk will deal with the fact that each man is called to lay down his life for his family, as Christ did for all people. While some may not be asked to physically die or suffer martyrdom for their families, the talk will examine how men can offer themselves in the everyday relationships with the women in their lives.
Kevin and Jillian are members of St. Wenceslaus Parish in Wahoo, and parents of four daughters ranging from age 10 to 26. Jillian is a certified hormone coach and gives talks and individual coaching to women.
The March 20 talk will begin at 7 p.m. at the Eagles Club, 140 W. 5th St., in downtown Wahoo. This is also “Hamburger Night” at the Eagles Club, so participants can grab dinner and the talk. Admission for the talk is free, and all men ages 18 and up are welcome. Contact Bob Sullivan at This email address is being protected from spambots.
