All women of the Catholic Diocese of Lincoln are invited to attend the biennial convention of the Lincoln Diocesan Council of Catholic Women (LDCCW).

The LDCCW is an organization of all Catholic women in the Diocese of Lincoln which enriches the lives of its members by pursuing projects designed to further spiritual and family life in all parishes and communities in southern Nebraska.

Convention events will be held April 26 and 27 at the John XXIII Center in Lincoln. The convention theme is “Celebrating with Gratitude… Serving with Joy!”

Registration begins Friday at 5 p.m., followed by a time of prayer, adoration, and worship before the most Holy Eucharist with Donna Cori, a professional musician. Cori’s website is donnacori.com. At 6:30 p.m., Father James Meysenburg will welcome attendees and bless the food before the heavy hors d’oeuvre reception.

Cori will lead praying the Divine Mercy Chaplet on Saturday morning. She will also present “Keeping a Mary Spirit Throughout a Martha Day.”

Mass will be celebrated by Bishop James Conley at 11:15 a.m. Saturday.

The biennial convention is when the new officers for the 2024-2026 term are installed, and standard business is conducted. Trudy Burenheide, the outgoing president, said she hopes all women of the diocese will join the LDCCW at the event to “‘Celebrate with Gratitude’ how (the members) have ‘Joyfully Served’ one another and the Body of Christ with the help of each one of you and the Holy Spirit.”

“My life has been truly enriched by the ladies of our diocese,” she said. “It was probably 2018 when I researched the LDCCW online and decided to attend my first meeting. I was hoping to find women who were openly passionate about their faith; that hope was fulfilled.”

Burenheide said she never envisioned or desired to be asked to be president.

“However,” she said, “if our Lord wills it, and even if we are new to the group and not knowledgeable of parliamentary procedure, our Lord can provide. He placed before me and beside me our dedicated executive board and faithful spiritual advisors that were committed to walking with me, to pray for me, and to remind me when I forgot to follow correct meeting procedures.”

She said many women, priests, and speakers throughout the diocese offered their assistance, support, and kindness in many ways, and she called her experience as president a “memorable, humbling, and amazing” journey.

“I hope you find in this message my encouragement for you to go out and do what you don’t feel qualified for if our Lord brings it before you,” Burenheide urged. “He knows more than you or I. Through the Holy Spirit, we can find the way. It’s not by our own efforts. It’s about trusting.”
