Events for women June 7-9 and men June 14-16

Southern Nebraska Register

The “Preached Spiritual Exercises with Traditional Latin Mass” retreat will be held at Our Lady of Good Counsel Retreat House on two weekends.

Father Joseph Lee, FSSP, will lead the women’s retreat June 7-9 and Father Martin Adams, FSSP, will lead the men’s retreat June 14-16. Both priests are members of the Priestly Fraternity of St. Peter (FSSP).

Father Lee was ordained a priest 12 years ago. He served as an assistant pastor in Ottawa, Canada, and Missouri. He now serves as a canon law instructor and dean of seminarians at Our Lady of Guadalupe Seminary in Denton.

Father Adams, ordained in 2018, has served in Fraternity apostolates in Kansas, Florida and Nebraska.

“I am looking forward to having the opportunity of trying to lead some other men into a deeper understanding of the truly transforming power of a relationship with Jesus Christ, which our Catholic faith offers us,” Father Adams said.

He said the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius of Loyola was a powerful tool in helping him – and his classmates in the seminary – to “more clearly discern the ‘one thing necessary’”: to know, love and serve God.

Each retreat starts Friday with an optional 5 p.m. Mass, supper and fellowship, before the first talk and silence begins at 8 p.m. The retreat concludes Sunday with Mass and lunch.

Our Lady of Good Counsel Retreat House offers a sanctuary of prayer and recollection on a spacious acreage near Waverly. There are 50 single rooms, each with a private bath.

Other upcoming retreats are four-, five- or eight-day directed Ignatian retreats with Father John Rooney, Matt Simmons or Sarina Stokes June 23-July 1, June 23-27, or June 27-July 1.
