Through special arrangement with Music Theater International, Pius X High School theater in Lincoln will present the first-ever combined Lincoln Catholic schools’ musical, “Godspell Jr.,” at the end of June.
Every Lincoln Catholic junior high school is represented by students, involved either onstage or behind the scenes. Music director Mary Odgaard said the combined schools’ summer production has been in prayer and development for several years, and directors are thrilled to have it come to fruition.
“Our mission in Pius X Fine Arts – ‘Reclaiming the arts’ – is truly that: a mission,” she said. “Our goal is to help train the next generation of artists to make sure that every decision we make as a performer or technician leads our audience (and ourselves) back to the Master Creator.
This combined schools’ production is an incredible opportunity to work with future Pius Players in honing their craft in a spiritually, physically, and emotionally safe environment and allow them to build their community of like-minded, open hearted artists.”
Director Sarah Moje agreed.
“We want to create an environment where faith and theater go hand in hand,” she said. “This particular production allows us to explore the gospels in a profound but understandable way for students. Each song, each scene explores a person’s spiritual journey in deciding to commit themselves to Christ. This is especially important to explore in a culture that is working very hard to pull us away from Christ.”
Written by Stephen Schwartz, Godspell Jr. utilizes the gospel of Matthew as its foundation for songs and dialogue to explore the impact Christ has on whose who allow Him to be the center of their lives.
Performances will be Friday, June 28, and Saturday, June 29, at 7 p.m., and Sunday, June 30, at 2 p.m. at the Pius X L/PAC, 6000 ‘A’ St., Lincoln. The running time is approximately one hour and family-friendly for all ages. Tickets can be purchased with cash or check at the door starting 30 minutes before each performance; the cost is $5 for all ages. Email This email address is being protected from spambots.
