Diocesan choir plans Nov. 17 event; register by Sept. 30
Southern Nebraska Register
The Diocesan Choir in Lincoln invites singers from the area to participate in a special concert Sunday, Nov. 17.
The concert will be the second in the Give Glory to God concert series, the first of which took place in November 2022. This year’s concert will benefit the restoration and maintenance of the Cathedral organ and further provide for Diocesan Choir events, liturgies, and concerts.
The event will be held at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 17, in the Cathedral of the Risen Christ, 3500 Sheridan Blvd., Lincoln.
Repertoire for the concert will include: Te Deum in F by John Ireland, Salve Regina Pacis by Xavier Dotras, Bread of Angels by John Kosch (commissioned for this concert and composed by a member of the Diocese of Lincoln), Coronation Mass by W. A. Mozart.
“The first Give Glory to God concert was a big, new undertaking; we hoped to give many people a chance to sing amazing music and grow in fellowship with other parish musicians,” shared Amy Flamminio, diocesan choir director. “It far surpassed our goals and dreams, and I am excited to see how it grows this year, reuniting with friends we made last time, and meeting new singers and musicians.”
While the 2022 concert included a string quartet and brass quintet, this year’s will include a nine-piece orchestra.
Participants will rehearse Saturday, Nov. 16, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Sunday, Nov. 17, at 1 p.m. until the concert. Singers will be on their own for lunch on Saturday, but a catered dinner will be provided for the choir before the Sunday concert.
Registration is free and closes Sept. 30, or when all voice parts are filled.
Music and recordings will be available ahead of time so that participants may learn their parts as much as possible before the Nov. 16 rehearsal.
