A special presentation was given by Dr. John Kincaid, the new vice president of academics for The Emmaus Institute. Staff of The Emmaus Institute addressed those gathered, and a guest speaker was Sister Guadalupe of the Marian Sisters of the Diocese of Lincoln.

The evening also marked the announcement of the organization’s first pilgrimage, “Encounter the Word from the Heart of the Church.” Emmaus faculty members Dr. Kincaid and Joshua Burks, joined by Father Cole Kennett of the Diocese of Lincoln, will lead a pilgrimage to Rome and Assisi, Italy, for the 2025 Jubilee Year of Hope.

The trip, held in conjunction with Encounter Travel, will take place from June 22 to July 1, 2025, beginning in Assisi to visit the homes of St. Francis and St. Clare, as well as the body of Blessed Carlo Acutis. The pilgrimage will explore the biblical roots of what inspired the saints’ love for Jesus, particularly through His Cross.

On the second leg of the journey, pilgrims will spend time in Rome and the Vatican to ponder the riches of Christ, as He is revealed in the Scriptures, and as the Church witnesses to Him in her sacramental life, and in the historic basilicas and cathedrals of the Eternal City.
