The 2024 Diocesan Teacher’s Institute, held Oct. 14 at the Embassy Suites in Lincoln, gathered Catholic educators and administrators for a day of inspiration and professional growth.
Father Robert Spitzer, invited by Bishop James D. Conley, delivered the keynote address. Known for his EWTN show “Father Spitzer’s Universe,” and as president of the Magis Center of Reason and Faith, he spoke on the complementarity of faith and science, a timely message for educators navigating a technology-driven world.
In addition to Father Spitzer’s talk, teachers attended breakout sessions on classroom techniques and technology. The Institute, part of the diocese’s ongoing effort to support and enrich its educators, emphasized the vital role teachers play in fostering both academic and spiritual growth in Catholic schools.
Father Lawrence Stoley, diocesan director of Catholic schools, emphasized the importance of fostering a Catholic culture within schools: “If we do our job well, teachers are able to do what they love—teach. And in a Catholic school, teaching is about leading children to heaven.”
He said the day was not just about professional development, but also spiritual enrichment, reminding educators of the profound vocation they have embraced.
