Our Lady of Good Counsel Retreat House in Waverly will host a St. Valentine’s Day “date night” Feb. 14 with the Missionaries of the Holy Spirit in the Family (MHSF).
Mass will be celebrated at 5:30 p.m. At 6:15 p.m., a formal dinner will be served, with menu options including roast beef or salmon, rosemary potatoes, green bean almondine, salad, red velvet cheesecake, beer bread and wine.
After dinner, a talk will begin at 7 p.m. Father Matthew Schilmoeller, assistant pastor at St. John the Apostle Parish in Lincoln, will present “The Precious Value of Marriage and Family.”
His talk will be followed by optional discussion time to connect with one’s spouse, or other couples. The evening will conclude by 8:30 p.m.
The Missionaries of the Holy Spirit are a Catholic apostolate dedicated to igniting holy marriages and reclaiming “a new normal” for families that will enact real and lasting change in the world. The mission is rooted in the call of St. John Paul the Great when he said, “Family, Become who you are.” The group’s vision is to build a culture of marriages solidified by holy formation, intentional community, and a deep encounter with God, who is the perfect model of familial communion.
Although the event is sponsored by MHSF, couples do not need to be part of MHSF to join the gathering.
“We are thrilled to offer an evening for married couples to gather over a nice meal with great company, and to consider how absolutely essential their vocation is to the home, the church, and the world,” said Chance Unger, founder of MHSF. “This is an opportunity for … any couple that would like to spend an evening with other like-minded families who are striving for joyful holiness in the domestic Church.”
Babysitting is available in the retreat house library starting at 6 p.m. For just $5 per child, the evening will include games and a movie. Kids’ meals are available for $6 each, featuring items like macaroni and cheese, chicken strips, fruit, and a brownie.
Tickets are $40 per couple, and registration is required by Monday, Feb. 10. Register at goodcounselretreat.org or call 402-786-2705 or email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
