Our Lady of Good Counsel Retreat House in Waverly will host a “Flame of Love” retreat March 7-9 for the Immaculate Heart of Mary movement.

The retreat begins Friday, March 7, at 7 p.m. with the rosary and Mass, and concludes Sunday, March 9, at noon with a communal lunch.

The Flame of Love is a movement that originated in Budapest, Hungary, through the heavenly communications received by Elizabeth Kindelmann from Jesus and the Blessed Mother. The messages, given from 1961 to 1982, echo the urgency of the messages of Fatima: the importance of prayer, fasting, and sacrifices in reparation and for the salvation of souls. Elizabeth’s diary, which has received the imprimatur of the Church, underscores the importance of devotion to the Flame of Love, promising powerful graces for families and communities.

The essence of the Flame of Love devotion is to make one’s life so full of Jesus through grace, that the influence of Satan on families and communities is broken. By asking the Blessed Mother to “spread the effect of grace of thy Flame of Love over all of humanity,” participants open themselves to a deeper relationship with Christ and a stronger commitment to prayer and conversion.

The retreat will be led by Jill Metz, the national director of the Flame of Love, and Lori Brown, regional director. They will guide participants through the messages of the Flame of Love of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. Four basic prayers are essential to the Flame of Love movement: the sign of the cross, the Unity Prayer, the Hail Mary with the Flame of Love petition, and the Prayer for the Propagation of the Flame of Love.

The retreat is available in person at Our Lady of Good Counsel Retreat House, or virtually. It will include meditations by retreat masters, participation in the sacraments of the Eucharist and Reconciliation, and time for silence and adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. It’s a time to deepen one’s spiritual life, grow in devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, and be empowered to live out the message of Fatima in one’s everyday life.
