Those who have a loved one who has stopped attending Mass and receiving the sacraments may join in prayers for that loved one March 11 and 25 at the Cathedral of the Risen Christ, 3500 Sheridan Blvd., Lincoln.

The Marian Mantle Silent Strength Prayer Group meets at 4 p.m. the second and fourth Tuesday of each month. They gather in the lower level of the church for the Divine Mercy chaplet, the rosary and other prayers, such as the stations of the cross during Lent. Mass is celebrated in the Cathedral at 5 p.m. for those who wish to attend.

The Marian Mantle apostolate was founded in Kansas. The Lincoln group has been meeting for 15 years and is dedicated to helping share the heartache one experiences when a loved one is no longer a practicing Catholic. The group is a spiritual one. There are no dues or commitments, and the group does not record names of prodigals.

“We know that Mary understands our pain and we ask her to carry our prayers to the feet of her Son, Jesus,” said group leader Kathy Neugebauer. “As a silent strength prayer group we pray for two things: our prodigals return to Catholicism, and grace for each other to persevere like St. Monica and love our prodigals with the unconditional love of Christ.

“We pray and let the Holy Spirit and our Blessed Lady handle the rest,” she concluded.

Neugebauer suggested that those with loved ones who have left the faith consider during Lent rather than to “give up” something, to “step up” prayers.

“Does your heart ache because a loved one has stopped attending Mass and receiving the Sacraments?” she asked. “Do you feel helpless and alone? You are not alone in your pain, and it is not your fault. Would you consider joining the Marian Mantle Silent Strength Prayer Group as we pray for loved ones to return to the Faith?”
