Our Lady of Good Counsel Retreat House in Waverly will host a powerful event May 30 through June 1: “The Way: A Healing Retreat for Male Survivors of Abuse.”
Weekend is an opportunity for male survivors of abuse to begin, or continue, deeply personal journey toward healing, restoration.
The retreat aims to offer men an opportunity to begin, or continue, a deeply personal journey toward healing and restoration. The three-day retreat is more than a series of talks or quiet reflection. It is a sacred invitation.
Developed by Sue Stubbs, a leading voice in trauma-informed spiritual healing, “The Way” has become a refuge for those who have suffered abuse and are searching for meaning, peace, and healing in their faith. Through guided meditations, prayer, and an intentional community of support, men will be accompanied through the wounds of the past into the hope of a renewed future.
Co-led by Kevin Sevcik, the retreat brings together leaders who have long ministered to individuals carrying hidden wounds. Their approach weaves together the truths of the Catholic faith with compassionate understanding and clinical awareness, providing a holistic path forward.
Father Gary Coulter, director of the retreat house, emphasized the importance of the ministry.
“We know how deep the wounds of abuse can go,” he said. “‘The Way’ is a retreat that offers more than coping. It offers a path to encounter God’s healing love, to rediscover one’s worth, and to begin living in freedom again.”
The retreat is open to adult men of all faith backgrounds who have experienced abuse and are ready to take a step toward healing. Confidentiality is deeply respected, and every effort is made to ensure that participants feel safe and supported throughout their time. “The Way” offers survivors a safe place to encounter healing, to reclaim their identity, and to be reminded they are not alone.
