Popular radio and television host, author, speaker and family therapist Dr. Ray Guarendi will travel across Nebraska on a speaking tour the first week in June.
The events are sponsored by Spirit Catholic Radio and will include presentations in Scottsbluff (June 2, St. Agnes Church), North Platte (June 3, St. Patrick Church), Hastings (June 4, St. Michael Church) and Lincoln (June 5, Pius X High School).
Dr. Ray has given more than 3,000 talks nationwide. His radio show “The Dr. Is In” is heard on more than 500 stations across the country, including on Spirit Catholic Radio in Nebraska.
In an interview with the Southern Nebraska Register, Dr. Ray said anyone coming to one of his talks will be informed and entertained.
“They will come away with more self-confidence. They will come away knowing that what they instinctively believe has a lot of reality to it,” Dr. Ray said. “And they will laugh. All of the talks are heavily loaded with humor. I’ve been called a psychologist-comedian.”
Dr. Ray will present his talk on the topic “Standing Strong as a Parent and Grandparent” in both Scottsbluff and Lincoln. Known for his common-sense approach to parenting, he is the father of 10 adopted children.
“This is no longer a farm in 1880. This is a culture that, in many respects, assaults the most deeply-held beliefs of Christians,” he said. “To stand against this culture, you have to have a steel rod about an inch thick through your spine. I will attempt to give them that steel rod.”
In his North Platte talk, Dr. Ray will focus on “The Logic of Being Catholic.” He speaks from the perspective of someone who left the Church for eight years, saying he “scratched and clawed his way back by the grace of God.”
“I really wanted to know does this Catholic Church make sense? Is it logical? Is it coherent? Does it give evidence in fact for who She says She is? And for me, it wasn’t so much an emotional experience as it was looking for truth.”
Dr. Ray will also speak in Hastings. The title of his talk there is “Men, Women, and Marriage.” In that presentation he has some advice when it comes to marriage.
“There are simple things you can do to dramatically improve a marriage,” he said. “I talk about some of those. The problem is, you resist doing them. So I try to get you over some of your resistance.”
Through his public talks and his daily radio show, Dr. Ray has answered thousands of questions from people across the country. He said some of the same questions keep being asked.
“My adult children have left the faith. What do I do about it? I feel like a failure,” he said is one of the most common questions. “Can you tell me how to make somebody else be different? How do I stand strong when my teenagers are looking all around and saying, ‘How can all those people be wrong and you be right?’”
Dr. Ray said he has heard from many who attended one of his talks and told him they left “recharged and rejuvenated.”
Each talk will start at 7 p.m. local time in each location. Tickets are $5 or five for $20. Reserve seats and get more details at SpiritCatholicRadio.com/DrRay.
