Men and women are invited to deepen their spiritual lives at the annual “Work of the Holy Angels” retreat, a four-day experience led by the priests of Opus Sanctorum Angelorum at Our Lady of Good Counsel Retreat House in Waverly, Sept. 4-7.
The unique retreat offers an immersion into the role of the holy angels in the life of prayer and spiritual growth. Through a combination of talks, liturgical prayer, and personal reflection, participants will explore how angels guide souls to God, intercede in daily life, and assist in the journey toward holiness.
“Angels are experts in prayer,” said Father Matthew Hincks, ORC, one of the retreat directors. “They’ve spent thousands, if not millions or billions, of years adoring before the face of the Father.”
Father Hincks will be joined by Father John Brohl, ORC, as part of Opus Sanctorum Angelorum, also known as the Work of the Holy Angels, an international movement within the Catholic Church that promotes devotion to and conscious collaboration with the angels in full fidelity to the Church’s Magisterium. The conferences during the retreat will focus on the spiritual mission of the angels, their guidance in the interior life, their intercessory power, and the miraculous works they can bring about.
“You should not be reluctant to ask the angels to work miracles for us,” said Father Hincks. “Nothing is either too big or too small for the angels to be concerned.”
In addition to the spiritual conferences, the retreat schedule includes daily Mass, Eucharistic Adoration, the Liturgy of the Hours, devotional prayers, time for private prayer and rest, and opportunities for confession or spiritual direction. The retreat begins with dinner at 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 4, and concludes with Mass and lunch on Sunday, Sept. 7.
