The Seven Sisters Apostolate invites men and women to an event Saturday, Oct. 18, at St. Gregory the Great Seminary, 800 Fletcher Rd., Seward.
The day of renewal is themed “The Power of Prayer,” and will include talks from various group representatives and time for prayer and for veneration of relics.
Janette Howe, founder of the Seven Sisters Apostolate, will be a featured speaker. In a group of Seven Sisters, seven women each commit to praying a holy hour for a specific priest one day a week, so that the priest has someone praying for him in front of the Blessed Sacrament every day for a year.
Howe, from the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis, was inspired to start the apostolate of prayer in 2010. It has grown to include more than 2,000 organized groups across six continents, 23 countries and all 50 United States. The Seven Sisters Apostolate has been active in the Diocese of Lincoln since 2017.
Priests who are the recipients of Seven Sisters groups will give testimony at the Oct. 18 event, and John Crotty will speak on the Fasting Brothers. A group of Fasting Brothers is a group of men who commit to fasting one day a week in conjunction with their parish’s Seven Sisters group, for the intention of a specific priest. Sunday is excluded as it is the Lord’s day and thus unsuited to penance.
The day of renewal is open to all men and women who participate in the apostolates of prayer, or who would like to learn more about the opportunities. It will begin with check-in at 8:30 a.m., before Mass at 9. Participants must bring a sack lunch and all are encouraged to wear blue to honor the Blessed Mother.
Space is limited to 120, so registration is required by Saturday, Oct. 11. To register, send a $15 check payable to Seven Sisters Apostolate c/o Pat Lanik, 354 W Chanceler, Lincoln NE 68521. Free-will offerings will be taken during the event for the seminary and to cover expenses for use of facilities, stipends for priests, refreshments, etc. With questions, text Rhonda Litt, diocesan coordinator, at 402-525-6396.
