Men of all ages and vocations are invited to begin the new year with a weekend of renewal at “Friends of Christ in the Midst of the World,” a retreat led by Bishop Robert Finn.

Held Jan. 16-18, 2026, at Our Lady of Good Counsel Retreat House in Waverly, the retreat offers a rare opportunity to slow down, listen deeply, and reconnect with Christ who walks with each person through every duty, relationship, and responsibility.

The weekend begins Friday with a 7 p.m. conference, followed by the rosary as an entry into silence and prayer. From there, retreatants are invited into a rhythm of rest, reflection, and encounter. Bishop Finn will guide participants through the timeless themes of the spiritual life: the plan of life, the universal call to holiness, and the gift of Divine filiation—identity as beloved sons of the Father.

Throughout the retreat, men will have the chance to step away from the demands of daily life and lean into Christ’s presence. The schedule includes both communal and personal prayer: Mass, adoration, confession, opportunities for spiritual renewal, and long stretches of quiet to hear God speak in the stillness.

The retreat concludes Sunday with Mass and a noon lunch. Both in-person and virtual registration options are available: Register at goodcounselretreat.org or call 402-786-2705.

For those discerning, searching, steadying a prayer life, or simply longing for a weekend with the Lord, the retreat offers a space to begin again—stronger, more rooted, and more aware of Christ in the midst of the everyday world.

Other upcoming retreats will be held Jan. 24-25, “Joy of Forgiveness” with Sandy Hoening; Jan. 30-31, Lincoln Diocesan Council of Catholic Women Winter Symposium; Feb. 20-22, “Unbound: Freedom in Christ” with Father William Holoubek; Feb. 27-March 1, “Living the Good Life” with Father Nicholas Kipper; Feb. 15, “Valentine’s Date Night” with Father Robert Matya and the Missionaries of the Holy Spirit in the Family.
