Spaces available for campers; counselors, missionaries needed

Southern Nebraska Register

As 2025 ends, Camp Kateri Tekakwitha has opened summer registrations for 2026.

The Catholic camp, located near McCool Junction, will hold 11 camps.

The camp mission is to pursue freedom, joy and adventure by displaying God’s pursuit for His people through the sacraments, Catholic fellowship, and the beauty of creation.

“Youth need to experience the natural world more than ever in this screen-filled culture,” said Jacob Brouillette, camp director. “And Camp Kateri is the best place to disconnect and grow in relationship with the Lord and campers all across the diocese.”

There are countless studies about the importance of youth playing in nature, he added, “and we have 80 acres of Nebraska’s beauty for your camper to experience.”

“Playing in nature reduces stress, builds confidence, increases creativity, and so much more,” he said. “I promise you won’t regret it, and your camper will come back home more alive and alert than ever – after a nap, of course.”

Camp Kateri offers various programs for different ages. The schedule includes one family camp, two Catholic Adventure Camps for children in grades 3-4, SKY Camp – Summer Camp for Youth – for grades 4-6 and SKY Games for grades 7-8. A new program, SKY High – will be available for grades 9-12.

Camps include bonfires, archery, axe-throwing, ziplining, and more. Campers are encouraged to compete, explore, and push themselves to grow in faith.

More camps mean more staff is needed, so Camp Kateri is also looking for counselors and missionaries. Opportunities are available for those in grades 9-12, or older. High school students who work as counselors can also receive a discount on SKY High admission.

In a letter to parents, Brouillette said he has seen countless hearts transformed through the gifts summer camps provide.

“Camps give campers the freedom to be the man or woman they were made to be by giving them space from the demands and expectations of the world,” he said. “They show campers the joy our faith can bring us when we trust in the Lord and see all the places He is present in our life. They enable us to live a life of adventure as we are surrounded by and explore the beauty of creation and the adventure of our everyday life through relationships, wonder, and creativity.”
