All are invited to begin the Lenten season with a prayerful Ash Wednesday Desert Day Wednesday, Feb. 18, at Our Lady of Good Counsel Retreat House in Waverly.

The day of recollection will be led by Father Gary Coulter and will feature reflections on the Sacred Heart of Jesus under the theme “He Loved Us.”

A Desert Day is a quiet day set aside for silence, prayer, and reflection—an opportunity to step away from daily distractions and spend intentional time with the Lord. Inspired by Christ’s time in the desert, the day invites participants to listen more deeply to God and rest in His presence.

The Ash Wednesday Desert Day will include guided talks, communal prayer, time for personal reflection, opportunities for confession, and the celebration of Mass with the distribution of ashes. Participants may come on their own or with a friend, and no overnight stay is required.

Desert Days are open to all and are ideal both for those who have previously attended a retreat at Our Lady of Good Counsel and for those who are visiting for the first time. The day is intentionally unhurried, allowing space for the Holy Spirit to lead rather than over-planned activity. Registration is now open.
