On Wednesday evening, Aug. 15, Dr. Gianna Emanuela flew into the Lincoln municipal airport for a quick visit. She is in the country to further promote, and decide where in the United States to build, an international center dedicated to her mother and father. Since she was relatively close to Lincoln, it was easy to stop by. This was her fourth visit to Lincoln. This is an amazing blessing because once she visits a city, she usually does not return. She considers St. Gianna’s Home a special place and loves the people of the Diocese of Lincoln and their love and devotion to her mother, St. Gianna.

The following morning after Mass at St. Gianna’s, we made a surprise visit to Gianna’s Java & Gelato for breakfast, a cup of coffee and a dish of her favorite lemoncello. Oh how sweet and delicious our gelato and sorbetto is! But, in the case of lemoncello, the mixture is sweet and sour.

After meeting the staff at Gianna’s and some of the patrons, we visited the staff at the St. Joseph Center and said a prayer in our beautiful chapel. Then we were off to the Marian Sisters’ motherhouse for lunch. As many of you know, it is the Marian Sisters who work at St. Gianna’s Home. Next on tap was a visit and Mass with my mother, Mary Barbara, in Bellevue. After all of this, we returned to Gianna’s Home for dinner and a visit with the ladies and children who live there.

Holiness attracts, and I am always amazed at how the ladies who live at St. Gianna’s are attracted to Gianna Emanuela. One commented that she can feel the holiness in this daughter of a canonized saint. As Gianna described some of the miracles worked by God after the prayers of her mother, one of the ladies listened attentively. She is one of the two ladies who are taking RCIA classes at St. Gianna’s in order to learn more about God and the Catholic faith. It was also touching to see Gianna hold a number of the little children in her arms.

The next morning after Mass at St. Gianna’s chapel and a light breakfast, I took Gianna Emanuela to the airport. I am happy to say that she is already looking forward to her next visit to Lincoln. Hopefully she will be able to stay a little longer during her next visit. Please keep her and her intentions and St. Gianna’s Women’s Homes in your prayers.

Please be assured of our prayers for you, your family and your intentions. St. Gianna, pray for us!
