Congratulations to the 2019-2020 Lourdes Central Catholic School Academic Decathlon team for an outstanding showing at their Regionals competition on January 18. The team placed first in the Very Small Schools category and will be advancing to State February 21 and 22 in Omaha.
The 2019-2020 Academic Decathlon team members include seniors Cathy Shawhan, Luke Partsch, Will Eppert, and Matthew Roettger; juniors Paul Shawhan, Ashley Green, and Jazmin Rodriguez; and sophomores Anna Kincaid, Abby Koelzer, Kaitlyn Howard, Mackenzie Ludwig, and Karla Rodriguez. Students from all grade levels are tested across the curriculum under the umbrella of a theme that changes each year. The theme they are studying this year is An Exploration of Illness and Wellness.
The Lourdes Academic Decathlon team earned 62 individual medals at Regionals in six subject area (16 Gold, 8 Silver, 24 Bronze). Cathy Shawhan was the Top Scorer for the team.
Earning medals for the main team were, from the HONORS Division (‘A’ average students), Cathy Shawhan and Luke Partsch. Shawhan earned gold in Art, Music, Literature, Science, and Economics. Partsch took silver in Art, Music, Literature, and Economics. Partsch and Shawhan tied for bronze in Math.
Main team SCHOLASTIC (‘B’ average) students were Will Eppert and Abby Koelzer. Eppert earned gold in Art, Music, Literature, Science, and Economics and silver in Math. Koelzer took silver in Music and bronze in Art and Math.
Main team VARSITY (‘C’ average) students were Jazmin Rodriguez and Mackenzie Ludwig. Rodriguez earned gold in Art, Literature, Math, and Science and bronze in Economics. Ludwig earned silver in Art, Language, Science, and bronze Economics. Rodriguez and Ludwig tied for gold in Music.
Alternate team members for the Honors Division were Paul Shawhan and Anna Kincaid. Shawhan took gold in Art, Music, Literature, Science, and Economics. Kincaid earned silver in Art and Economics and bronze in Music, Literature, and Science. Scholastic alternates were Ashley Green and Kaitlyn Howard. Green earned gold in Art, Literature, Math, and Science, silver in Economics, and bronze in Music. Howard earned gold in Music and Economics, silver in Art and Math, and bronze in Science. Varsity alternates were Matthew Roettger and Karla Rodriguez. Roettger took home gold in Art, Music, and Literature and silver in Math and Science. Rodriguez earned gold in Math, silver in Art and Music, and bronze in Science and Economics.
