LINCOLN (SNR) – St. Michael Catholic School in Lincoln collected more than 400 boxes of cereal to be donated to the Catholic Social Services Food Pantry during Catholic Schools Week.

“This was the most fun we’ve had supporting a food drive in a long time,” said Jenny Medinger, administrative assistant.

Before the donated cereal left the building, the seventh-graders lined up the boxes on the floor from one end of the building to the other and Principal Ashley Rockey started a “domino” chain reaction to the squeals and delight of the nearly 350 students who lined the hallways. The boxes tipped over one by one down the stairs, down the hall, around the corners, until the last boxes dropped.

Math students calculated how many boxes were needed to line the hallways to create the desired effect.

“It was such a fun project,” said Mrs. Rockey, “I’m looking forward to expanding the domino chain next year to include swirls and curves.”

Catholic Social Services was grateful to receive the load of cereal, as they reported their pantry was down to only three or four boxes.

“We can all cheer for that,” said Christy Kruger, physical education teacher and coordinator of the cereal drive.
