St. Peter School in Lincoln held a celebration April 8, marking the third consecutive year the school has been recognized as a “Superstar Catholic School” by Spirit Catholic Radio, and breaking ground for a new project.
The Superstar Catholic School recognition celebrates schools that demonstrate a strong Catholic identity, academic excellence, and a vibrant sense of community. As part of the award, Jen Brown of Spirit Catholic Radio presented Curt Feilmeier, principal, with a certificate of $1,000 of on-air promotion for St. Peter School.
This moment coincided with another significant milestone for the school: the groundbreaking of its outdoor stations of the cross project. Intended as a space for prayer and reflection, the stations will offer students and visitors a meaningful way to journey with Christ through His Passion—right on school grounds.
“This outdoor stations of the cross project will provide an opportunity for our school students (and all our parish members) to walk with Jesus and come to know further his love for us,” Feilmeier said.
Sister Fiat Marie, C.K., also presented an award to Feilmeier, on behalf of the students, to show gratitude for the work he has done over the past few years, “instilling the values of our Catholic Faith in all those who walk through the doors of St. Peter Catholic School.”
Father Eric Clark, pastor of St. Peter Parish, did the honors of breaking ground for the new stations. Attendees of the groundbreaking got a first look at an early design rendering of the stations, with further artistic details to be unveiled in the coming months.
The excitement around the project has already begun to bear fruit. Feilmeier informed the Register that a generous patron who attended the April 8 event was so moved by the vision that the person donated $2,500 the very next day, and that other attendees are prayerfully considering how they too might support the effort.
St. Peter School will host the annual all-city Mass Tuesday, Aug. 12, to begin the 2025–2026 school year. Bishop James Conley is expected to join the school and wider community for the celebration. Feilmeier is hopeful that the outdoor stations will be completed in time for the Mass, with Bishop Conley offering a blessing for the newly completed path.
