Scholarships to Attend Pius X Made Possible Through Bank of the West® Grant
More students will benefit from scholarship assistance to attend Pius X High School, thanks to a generous $3,000 grant from Bank of the West®. This is the fourth year in a row that the corporation has chosen to support the scholarship program at Pius X aimed at ensuring that students in Lincoln and the surrounding area who seek a Catholic high school education can do so regardless of socioeconomic status.
Presently, Pius X offers 36 need-based scholarships. During the 2014-15 school year, Pius X was able to distribute more than $74,250 toward tuition for 81 students who qualified for assistance.
“We are so grateful to Bank of the West and their continued support,” Pius X Development Director Michelle Birkel notes. “The impact of this grant increases our ability to provide need-based scholarships for qualifying students who attend our school. As a result, many more students in our community have the opportunity to receive the high quality education and preparation for higher learning that Pius X has to offer.”
“On behalf of my family and me, I would like to thank you and Bank of the West for being very generous and helping my parents pay my tuition,” one scholarship recipient, Maria, wrote in a letter to company representatives thanking them for the grant. “My Dad is disabled. So with the low income that my family receives, my parents have some trouble trying to pay my tuition, which is why we greatly appreciate your help.”
As the central Catholic high school in Lincoln, Pius X’s mission is to enrich the mind, heart and soul of each student through a Christ-centered, Catholic environment that provides academic excellence and preparation to achieve a meaningful, faith-filled life. Now in its 59th year and serving more than 1,100 students in grades 9-12, Pius X is guided by Pope St. Pius X’s motto, “Restore all things in Christ”.
