On Wed., April 27, students enrolled in AP (Advanced Placement) Biology, along with their instructor Mrs. Susan Kelly, visited the Omaha Henry Doorly Zoo.
As part of the animal behavior requirement for AP labs, students toured the zoo with an emphasis on the gorilla and gibbon habitat, insects in the butterfly/insect pavilion, and multiple phyla on display in the aquarium. They were also able to see the six African elephants that arrived at the zoo from Swaziland a few months ago.
With a mission of conservation, research, recreation, and education, the Omaha Zoo and Aquarium is nationally renowned for its leadership in animal conservation and research. In August of 2014, travel website TripAdvisor named Omaha’s zoo the world’s best zoo. The Henry Doorly Zoo is currently four years into a 10-year, $174 million master plan. Phase 1 of African Grasslands — the largest project in the zoo’s history at $70 million and more than 28 acres — began last spring.
